In an interview with G3 San Diego for Mega Entertainment, Maja revealed that her career suffered when she decided to get into a relationship with the actor.

The relationship caused a ruckus because Maja was best friends with Kim Chiu, whose loveteam with Gerald known as “Kimerald” had a very big following. Kim and Gerald became a couple but eventually broke up in 2010. Despite the split, the couple would still appear sweet together on-screen. During a Vice Ganda guesting, Kim hinted that the cause of her breakup with Gerald was a third party. Meanwhile, Maja and Gerald confirmed their relationship in 2013 but broke up in 2015.

According to Maja, she took most of the backlash from the public who accused her of betraying her friend to be with Gerald.

“Ako talaga as in gapang ako, wala ako. Nawalan ako ng mga endorsement.” Maja disclosed.

On Facebook, the Kapamilya Online World shared the rest of Maja’s statement. She realized that she shouldn’t have pursued the relationship.

“Dapat hindi namin pinilit. Oo, na-in love kami sa isa’t isa. Pero siguro ‘yung mahirap na sa umpisa pero parang andyan na eh! Alam mo ‘yung ganon?” she stated.

The actress looked back at how she lost endorsements while Gerald’s career flourished.

“Pero alam mong nag-struggle kami dalawa, individually. Kasi ako gapang talaga from the start. Kasi siya, dumadami pa ‘yung commercials niya. Ako talaga as in gapang ako, wala ako. Nawalan ako ng mga endorsement,” Maja recalled.
