Robredo reacted to the #NasaanAngPangulo, which trended again after Filipinos noticed that President Rodrigo Duterte missed his usual public address to the people. In an interview with ANC, Robredo defended the public’s interest in the whereabouts of Duterte.

“Sa akin, may basis kung bakit naghahanap kasi ganoon naman kahit ‘di ka presidente, kahit governor o mayor ka basta may nangyayari sa lugar mo, it is the natural instinct to look for their leader,” Robredo said.

She explained that even at local levels especially during challenging times, “people will wait for your mayor to be visible, to say that ‘everything is alright, we are on top of the situation, this is what we are doing’”.

Robredo continued that the concern stems from the people looking for assurance about the government’s efforts on the rising COVID-19 cases in the country.

“Kasi kapag wala ‘yung assurance, ‘yung tao na-stress s’ya eh. I think that is where it is all coming from,” she added.

The Vice President stressed that if the President is not available, someone should be placed in charge to take the lead in the government’s pandemic response.

“It doesn’t have to be the President. Although para sa ‘kin, malaking bagay kung ‘yung Presidente ‘yung nagtitimon kasi hindi makakahindi. ‘Pag si Presidente ‘yun, talagang mas mabilis. Mas mabilis kung siya mismo ‘yung nandoon,” she remarked.

Earlier, Senator Bong Go posted photos of Duterte assuring that the President is busy with heavy workload but is fit and healthy.
