Sofio Alo Jr., a driver, earned the praise of many when he didn’t hesitate to return a pouch he found at the backseat of his tricycle.

According to him, he was already loading bags of cement from another passenger when he noticed the pouch left behind by an earlier passenger.

Sofio shared that inside the pouch were cash and checks amounting to over P20 million. Most of the amount was in checks while the cash was around P1,070. He decided to bring the pouch home and seek the advice of his wife’s elder sibling who happens to know a local official. They were asked to go to the City Hall to arrange the turnover of the lost valuables.

When they were on the way to the City Hall, a barangay police and the passenger showed up outside their home.

Despite hardships in life, Sofio stressed the importance of values over riches. He added that he wants his children to imbibe the same values of honesty and integrity.

“I make it a point to teach it to my kids because it would be difficult for them not to have the same values,” Sofio said in Visayan to Manila Bulletin.

Because of good deeds, Sofio was recognized by the Apokon Elementary School’s Project WATCH (We Advocate Time Consciousness and Honesty). He also said he received grocery items from a business entity.
