Regine Velasquez recalled how she upstaged 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey during their performance on S.O.P. years ago.
During an interview via an online show “BrightWin Ninangs Live!,” Regine revealed what happened back in 1999 when she was asked to perform along with the boy band when they visited the Philippines. At the time, Regine was a regular host of S.O.P. and she was asked to sing “The Hardest Thing” with the 98 Degrees on stage.
According to Regine, she had an unpleasant experience with Nick Lachey whom she described as arro
gant. She said, “Iyang si Nick Lachey, Nuknukan ng yabang! But the other guys are really cool.”
Aside from Nick, the other members of the band are Jeff Timmons, Drew Lachey, and Justin Jeffre.
“Siyempre, medyo oriental ang hitsura ng lola mo so nagagandahan sila sa akin, ‘di ba? Lumalandi-landi nang ganoon nang very light. Iyong Nick Lachey, ang salb
ahe!” Regine laughed.
The Asia’s Songbird didn’t share what really happened why she called Nick as ru
de but admitted she was determined to upstage him. Regine hinted that during the rehearsals, Nick was being a “know it all” and she didn’t appreciate it. So when they shared the stage, Nick was surprised when Regine completely owned the performance that he could barely be heard.
She went on, “Biruin mo umpisa pa lang, nagmamagaling! Baklang ito. Humanda ka sa akin, hindi ka na maririnig!”
“So nagulat siya. Kasi noong nagre-rehearsal kami… nagulat siya, kinain ko talaga siya. Nainis ako kasi parang, ‘Bakla, nasa country ka namin, ha. Huwag kang umarte-arte diyan,” Regine remarked.
