- Luis Gragera, a “Tawag ng Tanghalan” contestant was instantly in tears after his performance
- He admitted he missed the lyrics of the song “Lately” by Stevie Wonder
- The mistake cost him a slot at the grand finals of the singing competition
A “Tawag ng Tanghalan” hopeful couldn’t help but be emotional after he missed the lyrics of the song.
Luis Gragera was instantly emotional after his performance at the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” as if he already knew that he would be eliminated.
During his rendition of the song “Lately” by Stevie Wonder, Luis stopped midway and skipped a line. He later on admitted that he had forgotten the correct lyrics. The mistake prompted head judge Louie Ocampo to raise his hand to count once as a signal. Three counts mean the performance has to be stopped and the contestant is now eliminated.
Luis was one of nine “Resbakers,” or those who previously had been eliminated but were given another chance to earn a slot in the grand finals.
Despite the mishap, Luis was able to finish his performance. When he turned emotional, his fellow contestants who were watching from the audience side were also moved to tears.
“Kabisado ko naman po siya. Kaso doon lang pong part, doon ako nalilito, kasi halos parehas ng salita,” he explained.
Judge Louie reminded Luis how important it is to focus on the technical side of a performance. “Hindi lang ito pagandahan ng boses. Nandito ang mga hurado, aabangan talaga nila kung kailan ka sasablay, kasi binibilang nila ‘yun,” he said.
Ultimately, Luis’ mistake affected his score and was ranked last among three performers that day. He later on had to say goodbye to the singing contest.
