Despite the country facing the COVID-19 pandemic, business mogul Manny Villar remains to be the richest Filipino, according to the latest report of Bloomberg.
Based on Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index for January 2021, Villar is still included on their list of 500 wealthiest people in the world. Villar landed on the 383rd spot and is the only Filipino on the latest list. Last year, he was on the 260th spot.
The report noted that Villar has a total net worth of $6.72 billion or about P232 billion. Despite the economic difficulties brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, he managed to keep his businesses going with only a minimum drop from his $6.92 billion net worth compared to last year.
Bloomberg’s overview description of Villar is, “Villar is the chairman of Vista Land & Lifescapes, the largest home builder in the Philippines. The Mandaluyong City-based company has built about 300,000 homes in more than 140 cities. The billionaire also owns stakes in Golden Bria Holdings, a property and death care company, and Vistamalls, a shopping mall operator.”
Bloomberg made a relative example of Villar’s wealth and showed that his net worth of $6.72B can buy 3.49M troy ounces of gold and 123M barrels of crude oil.
Villar’s Bloomberg Billionaire ranking should come as no surprise as he was also named as the richest Filipino on Forbes’ list last year.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg named Tesla Inc. founder Elon Musk as the newest world’s richest person with $194.8 billion, surpassing Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, who has held the top spot for several years now.
