Cathlyn Mariano is one smart saver as she took on the #IponChallenge last January 2020. Most people try to save by putting aside what’s left of their salary after spending on things. Cathlyn, on the other hand, makes sure that she first puts aside a certain percentage from her salary to her piggy bank before spending on anything. This way, her monthly savings isn’t compromised.

“Kada sweldo ko nagse-set na ako ng percent na ibubukod ko po sa salary. Hindi ko po dapat galawin. Dapat ise-save sa alkansya,” Cathlyn stated.

In one year, the 26-year-old teacher saved over P106,000 in cash. The amount was already far from her initial goal which was P60,000. She achieved her initial goal by September but instead of opening her piggy bank, she decided to continue saving up.

Cathlyn admitted that she grew up in a poor household; hence, she knows how it feels to be “short” on money. So, instead of just spending her savings, she is considering investing it on mutual funds or opening a business.

“Gusto ko po siya i-invest sa isang negosyo or sa mga mutual funds so pinag-iisipan ko po saan ko po siya gagamitin para lumago po siya, para makaipon po ako for the future,” she revealed.

To inspire others, Cathlyn also created her own ipon challenge and her own money organizer; saying those who would try it could save up to Php 40,000.

“Ang masasabi ko lang po lalo na sa mga kabataan, ma-realize nila ’yung kahalagahan ng pag-iipon. ’Yung pagtitipid n’yo po makakabigay ginhawa pagdating ng panahon,” she said.
