Villa, who is named Novelita V. Gallegos in real life, received the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (For the church and the Pope) medal, the highest award given by the Pope to lay people. She was conferred at San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish in Quezon City.

In an interview with Radio Veritas, Villa shared how she always felt she had a mission in life.

“Yung ambisyon kong mag-artista became a mission, lahat ng ginagawa ko sa showbiz ay may kaakibat na misyon,” Villa said.

“Bukal sa puso ko ‘yung anything na ginagawa ko for God. I’m happy to do it kahit mahirap,” she added.

Villa also appealed to Filipinos to continue being a good servant of the Lord. “I think I am just an instrument of God’s grace to people. By being nice to people, giving a smile at them, you’re giving them hope,” Villa stated.

According to Novaliches Bishop Roberto Gaa, being a recipient of the Papal award means you are a steward and an example of what it means to be a good Christian.

“Ang papal award ay tatak ng paglilingkod sa simbahan na may kaakibat na malaking responsibilidad; They are shining example sana paano mamuhay bilang kristiyano,” he explained.

Other Filipino celebrities who also previously received the papal award were Ai-Ai delas Alas and Ryan Cayabyab.
