Police Chief General Debold Sinas of the Philippine National Police said on Monday, 21st of December 2020 gave a statement discouraging netizens from taking videos or photos of a sensitive incident. This remark was made in connection to the tragic incident in Paniqui, Tarlac involving a police officer who claimed the lives of two civilians.
Sinas said in a press conference, “I think nasa mga tao po ‘yun, sa mga witness na kumuha (ng video and photos). I will not advise because very tricky ‘yun. Then he continued saying, ““if I may suggest, kung may mga ganoong incident, we just witness at saka ‘wag na tayo mag-interfere lalo na pag armed or dangerous ‘yung suspect or ‘yung mga involved.”
However, this statement of General Sinas did not appear pleasing to several netizens. Many reacted and expressed their dismay to the words pronounced by the general.
This comment made a long thread of exchange of insigts among netizens. Many agreed with what the netizen said while one of them gave her own assessment, saying, “May point naman kasi for the safety ng witness or witnesses, but in some cases, recordings can be a big help. (just an opinion).”
As things can never be changed, and people are looking at different angles, this incident should be assessed fairly in accordance with the law and in the service of truth and justice.
