The Office of the Vice President and its partner agencies turned over boats to the fisherfolks in municipalities of Aurora who were affected by the series of typhoons.
Vice President Leni Robredo was present they gave the fishing boats in the Aurora municipalities of Dingalan and San Luis, two coastal towns that were badly affected by Typhoon Quinta, Super Typhoon Rolly, and Ulysses.
During the program, Robredo admitted to the fisherfolks that not much attention was placed on Aurora while their many relief efforts were focused on Marikina, nearby towns in Rizal province, and the flood-stricken Cagayan Valley.
“Aaminin ko po sa inyo, dahil kasi magkakasunod iyong sakuna, hindi masyadong nabalita iyong epekto dito sa Aurora,” Robredo said.
“Kaya pagkatapos po ng Rolly, ako po ay umuwi sa amin sa Bicol kasi pareho po tayo, iyong Bicol po kung saan ako taga-roon at saka iyong Aurora, tayo iyong madalas daanan ng bagyo kaya sanay na sanay na tayo sa bagyo,” she added.
Robredo said that even after former Aurora governor Chit Ong informed her about the devastation faced by the province, it took some time to send in a relief team immediately because the staff were already in Bicol, Cagayan Valley, and Metro Manila. But nevertheless, she took the time to heed the call.
According to the Vice President they asked what kind of help they should provide and the residents asked assistance for their livelihood, that’s why they brought fishing boats.
The OVP shared that the donated boats were products of their fundraising drive of Angat Buhay partner and Kaya Natin Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership. Aside from the fishing boats, the OVP also provided relief assistance for affected residents of Dingalan, San Luis and Baler.
