While details on the identity of the woman were kept private, reports said that she was  “heartbroken” and experiencing marital issues since she just came from a barangay settlement with her husband.

According to a Manila Bulletin story, the couple have already separated but their seven-month old baby was taken away from her and placed in the care of the husband. The woman was already living with a different partner but her family was allegedly forcing her to leave her new man. This prompted the woman to go to a hanging pipe beside a bridge, which was at least 20 feet high.
