Senator Manny Pacquiao is now the president of President Rodrigo Duterte’s party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
PDP-Laban executive director Ron Munsayac announced that Pacquiao has replaced Sen. Koko Pimentel as party’s acting national president. Pimental is now the executive vice chairman while House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco replaced Pampanga third district Rep. Dong Gonzales as the party’s new executive vice president.
“Senator Koko Pimentel has passed on the practical day-to-day leadership of the party to one with new, modern ideas and one who has the time, energy, and boldness to prepare the party for the 2022 national and local elections,” Munsayac said.
Munsayac also shared a picture of Pimentel appearing to swear in Pacquiao and Velasco.
“Let’s welcome our new PDP-Laban party President Sen. Manny Pacquiao & EVP Speaker Lord Velasco!” Munsayac said on Twitter.
Munsayac said that the new party leaders would work “very closely” with their chairman Duterte.
In his speech, Pacquiao said he is enraged with corrupt officials and fighting corruption would be one of his priorities. He said the party will also focus on pushing for peace and economic development and will help craft “long-term goals” for the country.
