- Iza Calzado admitted that she was hoping for Charlie Dizon to bag the MMFF Best Actress award

- Charlie thanked Iza for introducing her to Antoinette Jadaone, the director of Fan Girl
Iza Calzado revealed that she was actually rooting for Charlie Dizon even though they were competing for the Best Actress award of the 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival.
For Iza, Charlie’s victory was something she was hoping for despite the fact they were both nominated for the same category for their performances in ‘Tagpuan’ and ‘Fan Girl’ respectively.
Iza took to social media to congratulate Charlie for bagging the Best Actress award and wished nothing but the best for the young actress.
“Tonight, I feel blessed to witness a star shine brighter. I know we were nominated in the same category but I was really rooting for you,” wrote the actress.
Iza said she felt honored that Charlie even remembered her during her acceptance speech.
“I am beyond happy to see you win and thrilled that you mentioned me in your speech. It gives me a sense of purpose beyond self and that is a great gift. How amazing that God used me as an instrument to help you in your journey in becoming the Fan Girl. You were destined for this @charliedizon_. Mahal kita,” she added.
During Charlie’s acceptance speech, she thanked Iza for introducing her to Antoinette Jadaone, the director of Fan Girl.
“Miss Iza, [thank you] dahil ikaw ‘yung naging tulay ko para kay Direk Tonette, na makilala nila ako. Thank you po,” she said.
Fan Girl brought home the major awards at the 2020 MMFF including coveted Best Screenplay, Best Sound, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography awards. Paulo Avelino also won Best Actor while Antoinette Jadaone won as Best Director.
