Paulo dedicated his Best Actor award at the 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival awards night to his son, Aki.
The actor was among the big winners at the MMFF for his performance in the movie “Fan Girl.” The Best Actor winner dedicated his win to his Aki; his son with his former girlfriend LJ Reyes.
In his acceptance speech, Paulo thanked the MMFF for the recognition. He also expressed his hope for a much better future for all.
He said, “Salamat sa lahat ng bumubuo ng MMFF and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority. Alam ko mahirap ang buhay ngayon para sa karamihan sa atin, pero pinapanalangin ko lang na sana umayos ang lahat.”
He went on to encourage everyone to hold on amid the challenges and to hope that our lives will be better soon.
“Kumapit lang tayo, luma
ban lang tayo, at sigurado akong darating ang panahon, sa hindi malayong kinabukasan, na giginhawa ulit ang mga pamumuhay natin,” Paulo said.
In the end, he dedicated his win to his 10-year-old son. He said, “So thank you, thank you so much. This is for you, Aki.”
Paulo has often kept his relationship with Aki private. While he isn’t often vocal about his son, he once admitted on Tonight with Boy Abunda that he always wanted to be a father.
Faced with the ‘golden mirror’, Tito Boy asked him, “The man in the mirror, he’s a father, he’s an actor, he’s a boyfriend. Who is he first?”
Paulo looked at himself in the mirror, and answered the question straight. “I’ve always wanted to be a father first, but maraming komplikasyon, maraming misunderstandings… but I’ve always wanted to be a father first.”
