Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo shared her thoughts about the Filipino resiliency.
The beauty spoke got candid about how we sometimes “overuse” the concept of Filipino resiliency. As Filipinos, we usually like to say that we can overcome challenges because we are strong and resilient. Filipinos are often praised for our positive outlook that we can still find joy and humor even in the toughest of times.
Rabiya said while its true that having positivity in our lives is good, we should also learn to find solutions to our problems. On Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, the host asked her, “What is resiliency?”
Rabiya replied, “Yung resiliency parang overused siya to the point na sometimes we don’t look at the problem to find the solutions and we need to tell the people na, oh we need to do this and have a positive mindset and we’re gonna overcome this but where are the tangible programs to help the people being affected by such situation.”
Rabiya went on to say that there should be tangible solutions to our problems to answer the needs of the people.
She added, “So yes, iba pag may positive outlook but, again, kailangan nating magkaroon ng tangible and visible solution. Hindi tayo maglelearn, hindi natin mapapabuti yung community natin if puro resiliency na lang.”
Rabiya also left this same message to victims of recent ty
phoons. She said, “Patatagin niyo ang loob niyo. I know it’s never easy mawalan ng bahay, ng gamit o mawalan ng loved one. Pero habang may buhay, may pag-asa. Magtulungan tayo. Pero at the same time, let’s look at the problem and create solutions.”
