- The local government of Valenzuela City has given students free SIM cards with monthly data allocation
- Mayor Rex Gatchalian urged learners to make use of these “investments” for their education
- Over 8,000 students from select schools are recipients of the free monthly internet data
Students from public schools in Valenzuela City received a free SIM card with a monthly data allocation courtesy of their local government.
Over 8,000 students from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela, Valenzuela City Polytechnic College, and Valenzuela City School of Mathematics and Science are the recipients of the local government’s program to give free data subscription for the entire academic year.
The SIM cards come with 34 gigabytes of data allocation, 4 gigabytes open access data, and 1 gigabyte per day for study applications.
The free data allocation will be used for the students’ Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) as the schools shift to full online learning. The use of Canvas LMS is also free-of-charge for students.
“We are excited because we will be able to maximize our Canvas LMS because we now have reliable internet connectivity. Our subscription to our LMS will be of no use if the students have no means to access the system,” Mayor Rex Gatchalian said.
Mayor Rex added that internet connection should be fast and reliable as communication is vital in these times of pandemic.
He said, “Running the city is a very serious matter — it becomes more serious during the pandemic. So the communication must be very fast, very convenient and very reliable. This program is part of the overall plan of the city to keep the students educated.”
He also encouraged learners to make use of the investments given to them by the government for their education.
” We partnered Canvas with a very reliable partner so all the necessary ingredients for the success of your [student’s] continued education, nandiyan na. Maximize the investment that the city is giving you,” Mayor Rex said.
