Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo turned emotional following the controversial posts of Miss Taguig Sandra Lemonon after her win.
The newly crowned beauty queen admitted feeling hurt over the accusations being hurled at her after she won the crown.
“To be honest po, maybe I wasn’t a frontrunner so people didn’t expect me to win and now that I have the crown… I’m sorry I’m being emotional,” she shared with MJ Marfori on Twitter.
“They’re questioning my capability as a person, as a candidate… but I know that I did everything and anything that I could during that night and ibinigay ko talaga,” she said.
Rabiya also denied that she already knew her question prior to the Q&A portion.
“And yung mga nagsasabi na the question was given to me that’s why I answered that way, it wasn’t given po sa akin. I did everything that I could because I want to make Iloilo City proud,” she stated.
The Ilongga beauty queen said despite being hurt, she would rather take the high road and be understanding of other’s feelings.
“Of course it was painful because there are things na you can settle by talking with each other. At the end of the day, this is a competition and being the bigger person in the picture, I need to understand where they are coming from,” she stated.
In a separate interview on with CNN Philippines’ Balitaan, Rabiya denied receiving any VIP treatment. She said, “Masasabi ko talaga na there was no VIP treatment sa akin. Pinaghirapan ko lahat-lahat, pinagdaanan ko ‘yung dapat pagdaanan para manalo.”
Earlier, Miss Taguig Sandra Lemonon shared cryptic posts on Instagram hinting about playing fair and not cheating.
