Pia Wurtzbach urged Filipinos to register as voters in the next elections.
Following the absolute pardon granted to United States Marine Lance Cpl. Joseph Scott Pemberton by President Rodrigo Duterte, the beauty queen expressed her optimism that more Filipinos would participate and vote in choosing our next leaders.
Pia tweeted, “Tuwing nagbabasa ako ng balita, palagi na lang palala nang palala ‘yung mga nababasa ko. Ngayon ito naman? Hay… Eto na lang, let’s all make sure we register to vote for the next elections. Each one of us.”
The tweet came just minutes after Pia tweeted her support for the TransLivesMatter movement and said she will “never get tired of saying this.”
Pia also retweeted an infographic from “We the Youth Vote” that shows information and guide on how to go through the voter’s registration process.
In another tweet, Pia reiterated how important it is to take the time and effort to register. She said our voices needed to be felt and not just heard on social media.
“I will continue reminding everyone to register to vote. Dahil sigurado, maraming magpapabukas nito until the last minute. No more excuses (even for me) lahat tayo dapat registered na. Hindi enough na sa social media lang tayo naririnig. #MasMaramiTayo #MagparehistroKa #40MStrong,” she tweeted.
After sharing her opinion, Pia was met with online criticisms but she shrugged it all; saying, “Hahaha. Sanay na sanay na po ako sa ganito. Noon pa man ay binabash na ko, even before Miss U. I learned that you should never be afraid to speak your mind especially when you know it’s right.”
