A grandmother mourned the passing of her husband who succumbed to COVID-19.
Lola Jaena and Lolo Jose’s love story was cut short due to COVID-19 as the elderly couple both tested positive. Lola Jaena, who was 66 years old successfully recovered but Lolo Jose who was aged 74 unfortunately didn’t.
When Lola Jaena was able to be sent home, she immediately looked for her late husband’s clothes and held them against her chest.
“Thirteen years old pa lang nililigawan na niya kasi ako, e. Hindi niya ako binitawan na mula noong nagkakilala kaming dalawa,” she said.
She added that if given another chance, she would still look for Lolo Jose to be with. “Kung mabubu
hay kami ulit, siya pa rin ang hahanapin ko,” Lola Jaena said.
Lola Jaena took her husband’s passing hard. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last February. Looking back, Lola Jaena recalled how she once shared with Lolo Jose her fear of losing him once they celebrate their golden anniversary.
Being infected with COVID-19 was difficult for the elderly couple. Their daughter Jhoana shared how they all long for their parents to be together as they recover but it was just not possible.
“Napakasakit noong pakiramdam na, na isang dingding lang o dalawang dingding lang ‘yung pagitan mo… ‘yung tiyansa mo na sana mapagsama mo sila,” she said.
When Lolo Jose succumbed to COVID-19, he was all alone. Lola Jaena and their family all wished to hug Lolo Jose goodbye but they understood the situation.
“Sabi nga nung mga nurses hindi na nga puwede kasi nga mahirap na, baka mas makakuha ng malalang virus,” Janelle, the youngest daughter of Lolo Jose and Lola Jaena said.
