Frontliners at the East Avenue Medical Center find their much needed stress reliever in a fluffy huggable teddy bear.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to sweep through the country, many of our medical frontliners find themselves overwhelmed and stressed with work. And what better way to have a quick power up than have a hug from an adorable stuff toy.
Meet “Dem Dem,” the teddy bear that has inspired and motivated many frontliners at the East Avenue Medical Center to go on another stressful day.
Mhel Ignacio, one of the senior nurses, shared how Dem Dem never fails to make her feel recharged while at work.
She said with GMA, “Kapag nakikita mo siya, nakaka-recharge ng energy. Imagine mo isang bear na walang buhay pero nagbibigay ng buhay sa tulad namin na punong-puno na ng stress and everyday duty.”
She went on to recall how Dem Dem helped her feel better when she became COVID-19 positive. She shared that when she was physically and emotionally down, a small encouraging message from the teddy bear has lifted up her spirit.
Mhel said, “Noong nagpositive ako sa COVID-19 noong April, nag-cri
tical ako. Hindi ko alam kung matatawid ko pa yung buh ay ko. Bumabagsak ‘yung oxygen level sa du go ko. Tapos ako lang mag-isa sa kwarto. Sobrang hirap. Pero kailangan kong lumaban. Sa mga pagkain na dinadala sa akin may note, ‘Get well soon, Ma’am Mhelai Love, Dem Dem.’ Kaya nung naka-recover ako, sabi ko, ‘Dem Dem, thank you. Hindi mo ako pinabayaan.'”
Mhel said since then she has been inspired to work harder and to give it her all everyday at work.
