Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano urged the Filipinos to unite against the threat of COVID-19 pandemic.
On his Facebook page, Cayetano stressed that as the country faces the continuing health crisis, COVID-19 is the enemy and not the government. He said disunity only hinders the government to work hard in protecting the people against COVID-19.
Cayetano wrote, “The leadership and members of the House of the People agree with the President that COVID-19 is the enemy, not the Government. Cayetano assured that the government will continue to answer the needs of the Filipino people. He said they are also looking forward to the swift passage of the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act to help the President address the needs of the public.
Cayetano urged the public to work together with the government in fighting COVID-19, and set aside politics for a common good.
“No one has a monopoly of good ideas and solutions, and anyone who pretends otherwise is either a liar or a fool. If we want to beat the virus, it is incumbent upon all of us to keep an open mind and not let partisan politics get in the way of doing the right thing,” he said.
In the end, Cayetano appealed to the people to stay united.
“I urge everyone, please let us work together – Filipinos of all faiths, ideologies, and persuasions – one body, united in defeating COVID-19,” he said.
