Batangas 6th District Representative Vilma Santos-Recto appealed to her fellow lawmakers to grant ABS-CBN its new franchise.
On Instagram, Rep. Santos-Recto issued a statement addressed to the members of the House Committee on Legislative Franchises responsible for the network’s committee hearing. She said she believes that ABS-CBN will be very helpful to the Filipino people, especially in this time of COVID-19 pandemic.
“Ako po ay isa sa mga naniniwala na karapat-dapat na mabigyan muli ng pagkakataon ang ABS-CBN na ipagpatuloy ang serbisyo sa mamamayang Pilipino lalo na sa panahon ng pandemya. Kailangan natin ang tulong nila.”
Rep. Santos-Recto, author of House Bill 4305 that seeks to grant ABS-CBN a new franchise, asked her fellow lawmakers to be more understanding on the issues.
She said, “Ako po ay umaapela sa aking mga kasamahan sa Committee on Legislative Franchises na magkaroon ng malawak na pag-unawa at pag-iisip tungkol sa usaping ito.”
The former actress also asked for a fair and balance judgment when they make their decision. “Nawa’y patas na aplikasyon ng batas, at balanseng pagtingin at pagsusuri ang magiging sandigan natin sa paggawa ng desisyon,” she said.
She went on to remind the lawmakers to at least consider the 65 years of public service given by ABS-CBN. From news, information, education and charity work, Rep. Santos-Recto said the network has helped the Filipino people.
In the end, Rep. Santos-Recto hopes more would pray to grant ABS-CBN another chance. She said, “Sana ipagdasal natin na payagang magbukas muli ang ABS-CBN sa pamamagitan ng pag pasa ng panukalang ito.”
