Sarah Geronimo has been named the newest ambassador of the Philippine Statistics Agency.
The PSA has tapped Sarah to help promote and raise awareness for the PSA’s 2020 Census of Population and Housing program starting September. A virtual press conference was held to premier the 60-second infomercial of Sarah of the campaign.
During the launching, several key PSA officials were in attendance including Minette Esquivias (Officer-In-Charge, Censuses and Technical Coordination Office), Florante Varona (Officer-In-Charge, National Censuses Service) and Joseph Cajita (Chief Statistical Specialist, Population and Housing Statistics).
According to a PSA spokesperson, Sarah was their only choice as endorser. The agency also explained why they chose Sarah as their newest ambassador.
“Kaya si Sarah ang napili namin sa infomercial kasi alam naming na sa lahat ng klase ng estado ay kilala siya. So, as much as possible gusto namin na makarating ng mas malawak yung maabot ng campaign para dadating na census,” the agency said.
The PSA also clarified that Sarah’s political affiliations or leanings have no bearing on why they chose her.
“Walang sinasabing political affiliation or whatsoever kung bakit naming siya kinuha. Ang ating campaign na ito ay campaign sa pag-conduct ng census kasi po talagang kailangang-kailangan natin na magkaroon na tayo ng inbentaryo sa ating populasyon,” the agency added.
The spokesperson also admitted how they also planned to include Sarah’s husband Matteo Guidicelli as endorser but their budget could no longer afford it.
