- House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano asked the public to respect why the committee members decided to reject the granting of ABS-CBN’s franchise
- He said the public should “read the findings carefully”
- Cayetano said that with the decision in place, it’s now time to move forward
House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano urged the public to understand and respect the decision of the House committee on ABS-CBN’s franchise.
Following the Committee on Legislative Franchise’s rejection of granting ABS-CBN’s fresh 25-year franchise, Cayetano asked for understanding as reactions and opinion on the decision poured online. In a statement, the House Speaker asked the public to “read the findings carefully” and understand why the committee members came up with their decision.
On Facebook, Cayetano wrote, “As the Committee members have voted to deny the franchise application, the House Leadership asks that the people read the findings carefully in order to appreciate the reasons for their decision.”
“And for those who do not agree, at the least, understand why the decision had to be so,” he added.
Cayetano continued that it was not an easy process to make and assured that the committee has the nation’s welfare in their mind.
“This has by no means been an easy process for anyone involved in these proceedings, and I can assure our kababayans that the final resolution was not arrived at by the Committee without serious consideration as to the overall impact it will have on the nation,” Cayetano said.
He said that with the decision in place, he hopes everyone will now move forward and accept each other’s differences of opinion.
“I pray that despite our differences, we will eventually come to respect the decision of the committee and its members, and begin to move forward in rebuilding the relationships that have been strained by this issue,” the House Speaker added.
