Malacañang described the Duterte administration’s fourth year in power as “great.”
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque marked President Rodrigo Duterte’s fourth year as the leader of the state with good words and praise. He said despite being faced with COVID-19 pandemic, we can still rise from the challenge.
“It’s been a great four years. Mayroon po tayong pagsubok pero dahil mayroon po tayong very sound fundamentals, makakaahon din po tayo dito sa pagsubok ng COVID-19,” Roque was quoted by GMA.
Roque also noted how the Philippines was one of the “best performing” economies in the world before the COVID-19 pandemic began. He said in the past four years, the economy grew at an average of 6.5% and inflation was under control. He also shared how the interest rates were low and the Philippines had a record credit rating.
“It was actually a great performance as far as the economy is concerned,” Roque added.
Recently, a Social Weather Stations survey showed that a record-high number of Filipinos are already pessimistic about their quality of li
fe as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. As many lost their jobs and liv elihoods, the survey showed that 43 percent of Filipinos polled in May said they expected their quality of li fe to worsen in the next 12 months.
Roque admitted the huge impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to the majority of the Filipinos. He, however, reiterated the strong support of the public to the President.
“Unfortunately, tinamaan po tayo ng pandemya. Pero sang-ayon po sa mga survey din ay talagang overwhelming majority ng ating mga kababayan suportado naman po ang mga aksiyon na ginawa ng ating Presidente,” Roque said.
