Erik Matti couldn’t help but express his dismay over the inclusion of a Vice Ganda film in the official entries of Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2020.
The award-winning director mocked the application process of MMFF on why they still chose to include another Vice Ganda movie in the list of official entries. On Facebook, Direk Erik lamented how there were no changes in the movies this coming Christmas.
“Bagsak na nga ang pelikula, sumara na ABS, Praybeyt Benjamin pa rin palabas sa Pasko? Walang nagbago a! [expletive]!” Direk Erik wrote.
He went on to complain how there have been so many changes in the country but Filipinos seem to have not learned a thing as we continue to patronize Vice Ganda movies like Praybeyt Benjamin.
“5 months lockdown. Thousands of content binged. Biggest network closes. Praybeyt Benjamin. We never learned,” he wrote in another post.
The MMFF posted earlier the first four films that are included in the festival. Aside from Vice Ganda’s Praybeyt Benjamin 3, the other three entries are Magikland, Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan, at The Exorcism of My Siszums.
This isn’t the first time Direk Erik had been vocal about the criteria of MMFF official entries. In an earlier statement, he said that while he understands the commercial side of the movie festival, the criteria should be changed.
“I have no problem with having a film festival that’s for commercial purposes. But change your criteria then,” he said.
