- President Rodrigo Duterte said God will not forsake us, especially because we have a predominantly Christian population
- He urged Filipinos to sacrifice and persevere amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic
- Duterte earlier said he believes only God can solve the pandemic
President Rodrigo Duterte reminded the Filipinos to be patient and trust God amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.
Duterte in a taped speech asked Filipinos to hold on to their faith and follow the health protocols to avoid the spread of COVID-19 in the country. He said that while it seems impossible, the end of the pandemic will come. He said we just need to persevere and be patient.
“In the meantime ang importante talaga dito is your perseverance. That’s the word. You must persevere during this time. Simplehin ko: Patience. Tutal darating din ‘yan,” Duterte said.
The President went on to say that God will not forsake us, especially because our country is predominantly Christian. He urged everyone to sacrifice a bit for all.
“Marunong ang Diyos, hindi niya tayo pababayaan especially ang Pilipinas kasi Kristoyanos tayo. Magsakripisyo lang tayo nang konti,” he said.
Duterte went on to remind everyone how Jesus sacrificed for us all and we should also make sacrifces for our country.
“Tutal ang ating idol nagsakripisyo man din, pinaghaham
pas ham pas, ipin ako pa sa krus, tayo pasimba simba lang, paluhod-luhod lang. So dedicate it to the Lord that you also suffer for the country,” he said.
Last April, Duterte also called Filipinos to unite and pray. He said he believes that it is only God who could immediately solve the COVID-19 pandemic.
“He’s (God is) the only one who can really solve the problem for us,” Duterte said in an earlier public address.
