Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto is encouraging commuters to consider using bikes on their way to work.
As transport restrictions ease with the declaration of general community quarantine, Mayor Vico said it’s best to use bikes to help lessen traffic. In a Facebook liv
e, Mayor Vico said that since the major cause of traffic are private cars, he suggested the employees to “bike to work.”
He said, “We’re promoting bicycle riding and other alternative modes of transportation dahil alam po natin kung gaano katrapik dito sa Pasig.
Mayor Vico said despite the hot weather in the country, the use of bikes has already been proven by some of his employees.
Earlier, the Pasig City Transportation Department earlier declared biking as an essential mode of transportation. They passed Executive Order 18 series of 2020 that allows bicycle shops and businesses primarily engaged in the repair and maintenance of bicycles to operate even if the city is on lockdown.
Last March, Pasig City decided to repurpose its “Bike Share” units to help frontliners get to work. They also started creating bike lanes and extending the sidewalks in some areas in the city to make the streets safer for bikers.
