Solicitor General Jose Calida quoted Frank Sinatra’s popular song “My Way” and said, “And now, the end is near” during the committee hearing on ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal.
During the resumption of the House committee hearing on the proposed franchise renewal of ABS-CBN, Calida couldn’t help but continue to express his dissatisfaction over the media’s proposed new franchise renewal.
Calida was responsible for asking the Supreme Court to abolish ABS-CBN’s franchise due to alleged legal issues like foreign ownership and ill
During his speech, the SolGen said that he joins House Speaker Peter Cayetano to give ABS-CBN a fair and honest investigation. The solicitor general stood by his earlier decision that ABS-CBN committed violations and that it has been deceiving the Filipinos for decades.
Calida said, “Ignorance of the law excuses no one from compliance therewith. For decades now, ABS-CBN has been deceiving the Filipino people. Their hour of reckoning may have been delayed, but it has now come.”
Calida added that the network’s violations has been unnoticed for a long time. “ABS-CBN has committed so many violations which went unnoticed and unpuni
shed. But we are determined to root out such ill egal practices. And now the end is near,” he said.

hts for the rule of law” and noted the cases of Senator Leila De Lima and former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
“Bakit pa kami titigil ngayon? Responsibilidad naming ipagpatuloy ang la
ban na ito. Hindi para sa aming sarili kundi para sa sambayanang Pilipino,” he said.
