- A puto vendor in the Saranggani province waived receiving assistance from DOLE’s TUPAD program
- He contented himself receiving P5,000.00 from the Social Amelioration Program
- Alabel LGU commended his decision
Trying times, they say, show the true color of people. Hence, the goodness of a rice cake vendor in the Sarangani province shone after he showed honesty and kind decision despite him apparently needing money too.
Junred Esique had decided to waive receiving another assistance from the government and contented himself with the P5,000.00 from the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Waived by Esique was the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Worker (TUPAD) program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
TUPAD program is a community-based package assistance for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum of 10 days and maximum of 30 days depending on the work to be performed.
The Purok Cogonal, Poblacio, Alabel, Sarangani resident is qualified to receive this; with him being a puto vendor.
His product, puto, is a well-known rice cake made with rice flour or all-purpose flour topped with cheese. Puto vendors would usually sell this early in the morning; perfect for breakfast, but can also be eaten as merienda.
His choice earned him praises from the local government of Alabel for being a good example for the people. Moreover, netizens commended him.
One netizen said, “God will give more than what you expect. Honesty is the best policy. Sa panahon ngayon, kakaunti na lamang ang tulad mo. Sana ay gayahin ng iba pang tao upang lahat ay makatanggap mg mas marami pang blessings. I salute you sir. You are one of a kind. God bless.”
However, some felt sad that he chose to give back the money but he should’ve taken it, some said, and gave to members of family or individuals whom he thinks are deserving to receive the assistance.
