Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray helped raise a generous donation to help feed impoverished families living in Smokey Mountain in Tondo, Manila.
Through the non-profit organization Young Focus Philippines, Catriona helped raise over $47,000 or P2.37 million for 6,000 families. Their “No Work, No Rice” fundraiser helped feed hungry families by giving out rice and other basic needs amid the continuing health crisis. And their relief aid is not just given one time but every household gets replenished every 10 days. They were able to hand out over 65,000 kilograms of rice and other food so far.
On her YouTube channel, Catriona expressed her gratitude to everyone all over the world who helped the good cause.
“During this season, we’ve seen the spread of a lot of different things — the spread of a virus, the spread of uncertainty, the spread of fear. But also in the midst of uncertainty, I’ve been incredibly inspired by something all you have been spreading — and that’s kindness,” she said.
Meanwhile, Young Focus Philippines’ Managing Director Paul Van Wigjerden shared how Catriona worked hard to help raise the funds for the families in Smokey Mountain.
“You know, I thought of putting something on the internet and Catriona Gray came in the picture. This turned into an amazing huge campaign where so many kilos of rice have been donated to the people here. So altogether, for thousands and thousands of families we were able to provide rice,” he said.
