“Real life role models”: Mattel unveils Barbie doll versions of real female athletes

Oh wow!Toymaker Mattel has revealed the newest Barbie doll line featuring real female athletes!

Barbie doll is out to inspire many young girls to achieve their sports dreams.

In their newest line of dolls, they made replicas of famous female athletes all over the world.

The athletes featured in the dolls are UK sprinter Dina Asher-Smith, French soccer team captain Amandine Henry, Ukrainian fencing champion Olga Kharlan, Turkish Paralympic swimmer Sümeyye Boyac?, Olympic snowboarding champion Chloe Kim and two-time Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams and many others, Juventus and Italy captain Sara Gama, windsurfer Cagla Kubat, Chinese volleyball champion Hui Ruoqi and pro golfer Lorena Ochoa. A total of 14 Barbie dolls are expected to be released.

The dolls were created as part of Mattel’s Barbie Dream Gap Project, which is aimed at combating societal assumptions that girls may be less capable than boys. It also hopes to empower young girls to celebrate their achievements.

The dolls are part of their “Shero” campaign released in celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, and to raise awareness of female role models in the sporting world.

Barbie Senior Vice president and General Manager Lisa McKnight described their newest doll line as a celebration of “historical and modern-day role models from around the world.”

“As a brand that inspires the limitless potential in girls, Barbie will be honoring its largest lineup of role models timed to International Women’s Day because we know that you can’t be what you can’t see,” she was quoted by Bleacher Report.

“Girls have always been able to play out different roles and careers with Barbie, and we are thrilled to shine a light on real-life role models to remind them that they can be anything,” she added.
