The Philippines’ first-ever cerebral palsy football team will don the national colors in the upcoming ASEAN Para Games.
The team known as CP Rascals, which is composed of 12 athletes with cerebral palsy, will represent the country in the 10th edition of the ASEAN Para Games which will be hosted by the Philippines come March, a report said.
According to Danny Moran, head of the Henry V. Moran Foundation, which initiated the formation of the national team, their search for players started in March 2019 after the organization was appointed by the Philippine Sports Association for the Different;y Abled (PHILSPADA) to form a team that will represent the country in the international tournament.
“Our special football arm, CP Football Philippines, toured 12 cities, coordinating clinics and tryouts with the heads and officers of local government units,” Moran shared.
“By July, we had discovered some players and training for the team began,” Moran added; revealing that they also plan to add two more athlete to the current 12-man roster before the ASEAN Para Games.
Moran furthered bared that the team is backed by private organizations who offer support to the players as well as the coaching staff. Insurer Allianz PNB Life, he said, is providing the team’s life, medical, and travel insurance. Allianz, he further shared, also offers cash support for the nationals’ football camp and housing.

The team is also poised to participate in the 11th ASEAN Para Games in Vietnam in 2021.
