Each parent has their own parenting style which depends on what they think is most effective to bring out the best from their children. But do parents consult their kids regarding their preferred child rearing style? Perhaps a majority do not.
In the segment “Payong Paslit Po” of the Kapuso morning show Unang Hirit, child stars Angelica Ulip, Paopao Francisco and Leanne Bautista shared insights after parent Cecil Parro asked them how to handle children having
tantrums in public places.
Paopao said parents can call their attention in a proper way, and not to shame the child in public. He suggested one-on-one conversations in private places explaining the situation. Parents can give rewards if they do something good. The child actor also reminded children to follow their parents so they would grow kind and healthy.
Angelica said disciplining in public has become harder because everything is easily judged through social media. She said that if parents have properly taught good discipline to their children in their home, the latter will easily follow them even if they’re outside.
Leanne said parents should give their children rules to follow on what to do in public places. It is natural, she said, for children to feel bad when there is something that they want to buy. However, parents should not
shout at, scare or hit them. The parent should properly explain that rude behavior would bring them less chances.
Cecil Parro replied that she liked the insights of the children particularly on good discipline and conversation at home. This, she said, will maintain a harmonious parent-child relationship.
Have you gained good pointers from the opinion of the Kapuso child stars? Do you think it is wise to consult your child on how to discipline them better?
