An official of Timor Leste has sent his country’s warmest greetings to all the Filipino fans who are cheering for them.
The Vice President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Timor Leste Vicente Carvalho da Silva expressed their appreciation for the Filipino fans who wished them well. Da Silva was interviewed by the “Usap Usap University” for his reaction on the love being sent by Filipinos for their athletes at the 30th SEA Games.
“I am very happy for your help,” De Silva said who’s also the chef de mission of Timor-Leste for SEA Games. “All of the Philippines’ hospitality for my country, Once again, thank you very much for your help,” he added.
Timor Leste recently trended on Twitter as Filipinos expressed their support for the country’s athletes to win at least one medal. To date, Timor Leste ranks last place with zero medals in the tally.
Filipino netizens created messages and images of support to encourage the Timor Leste delegates to continue working on their medal. They won 3 medals back in the 2017 SEA Games.
A netizen wrote, “I really hope Timor Leste can get some medals. Doesn’t matter how many, may it be gold, silver, or bronze. I know how much effort they put into this event and at this rate, they really need something to boost their morale.”
Netizen W. Allere also wrote, “I’m a Filipino by heart and soul. I support my Filipino Athletes but one thing that captures my heart, it’s the fighting spirits of Timor-Leste (East Timor) that really showcase the true sportsmanship even without the medals, I admire their desire and passion to still play continuously.”
