Bamboo Sanctuary and Ecological Park is a home for 32 species of bamboos that Fe de Veyra and her family planted themselves. It is beside their resort that is popular for its bamboo-inspired steel dome that has a huge space perfect for events and gatherings.
“We call it Davao Bamboo Sanctuary because of the advocacy that we have, [to] plant and [promoting the] use of bamboo,” she said in an interview.
“Ang hilig ko po sa bamboo ay nagsimula noong I read about bamboo. I learned that bamboo is a really beautiful plant,” she added.
In her interview with ABS-CBN’s Matanglawin, Fe gave a quick tour of what’s inside their bamboo sanctuary.
She showed off some of the rare bamboo species that they planted. She also provided a glimpse of their first bamboos when they were just starting to plant their property.
“Ito yung ang pinakaunang bamboo na binili namin. Itong buho na ito, 10 years na ito,” she said. “Noong binili ko siya ganito lang siya kaliit. Ngayon ganiyan na. It can really grow as tall as that.”
According to Fe, she learned how significant bamboo is for the ecosystem. “It gives us more oxygen. It is very efficient in [preventing] flood and for soil erosion.”
Aside from bamboos, the resort has a swimming pool and fish pond where you can enjoy with your family and friends.
