- Timor Leste has grabbed 5 bronze medals and 1 silver in the 30th SEA Games in one day
- The highly boosted Timor Leste won a bronze in taekwondo and two more bronze medals in boxing
- They are now on a roll as they also earned a silver medal in taekwondo and another bronze to a total of 6 medals
It’s just a few more days until the 30th Southeast Asian Games culminates but Timor Leste showed that truly “We Win As One.”
Despite the long wait, Timor Leste finally bagged medals at the SEA Games. And their national team didn’t just bag one but a total of six medals in just one day.
Timor Leste’s first medal was a bronze in Taekwondo when their athlete Amorin Imbrolia Araujo dos Reis made it to third place in the women’s under 57kg category. She was clearly emotional and moved to tears for her podium finish.
Amorin said, “It’s the first medal for my country, that’s why I’m so emotional, I feel so happy and I’m excited. I give this medal for my country Timor Leste and thank you for the Philippines for supporting me.”
“My biggest dream is to give some medals for my country because this is my first time in the SEA Games,” she added.
Shortly after that, Jose Barreto Quintas da Silva bagged the Timor Leste’s first bronze in boxing when he was defeated by Thailand in the semifinal lightweight match.
In the early evening, compatriot Frederico Soares Sarmento also lost the semifinal light heavyweight match against his Vietnamese opponent and settled for another bronze medal.
As of December 9, Timor Leste also earned a silver medal from jin Ana Da Costa Da Silva Pinto Belo in the women’s -46 kg finals in the taekwondo competitions and another bronze medal. They now have a total of 6 medals in the SEA Games.
