With three days to go before the biennial sports meet ends, Timor Leste finally won a bronze medal. Timor Leste’s Jose Baretto Quintas da Silva lost to Thailand’s Ammarit Yaodam in the semis of the men’s flyweight, but he’s already assured of a bronze medal in boxing.

Days ago, Timor Leste became a trending topic as Filipino fans cheered for them to win their first SEA Games medal.

Pinoy fans sent messages of encouragement and cheers to Timor Leste athletes. One message that went viral goes, “Fight Timor Leste! We want you to go home with a smile and something to celebrate. Get that bronze or silver or gold medal. #WeWinAsOne.”

The Vice President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Timor Leste Vicente Carvalho da Silva has expressed his country’s appreciation for the overwhelming support.

He said, “I am very happy for your help,” De Silva said who’s also the chef de mission of Timor-Leste for SEA Games.

“All of the Philippines’ hospitality for my country, Once again, thank you very much for your help,” he added.

Timor Leste’s victory came as a celebrated win, especially the Filipino fans. Messages of congratulations came in for Timor Leste.
