President Rodrigo Duterte admitted that he would rather pray for the country than ask anything for himself.
The President shared in an interview on “Unang Hirit” that he prays every night for the welfare of the entire nation. He said at his age of 74, Duterte has nothing to ask for himself.
“Yes, for my country. Wala na akong hinihingi para sa akin, sa sarili. Bansa lang,” Duterte answered when the hosts asked him if he still prays at night.
“Ako hindi na ako nagdadasal para sa sarili ko. Para sa bayan,” he added. Duterte also continued that if he would become Santa Claus this Christmas season, he would give gifts to the poor and in need.
Despite receiving cri
ticisms for his tir ad es against the Catholic Church, Duterte had earlier described himself as a “deeply religious person.” He said despite engaging in disagre em ent with the prelates, Duterte denied being “sacril egious.”
“You might think that just because I quarr
el with the cardinals and the bishops that I’m irreverent. ‘Yung I could be a sacril egious guy. Hindi kaya. Kilala ako ni Pastor,” Duterte said; referring to Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
Born and raised a Catholic, Duterte said he liv
es by the words of the Bible and uses it as a guide whenever he is faced with problems. “I am a deeply religious person, sa totoo lang. And my guiding li fe, alam ni Pastor ‘yan, is the Bible. And if you can memorize by h eart and understand Ecclesiastes 3. You can face any problem. You might not be able to solve it but you can understand why,” Duterte said.
