While there are many possible reasons why students have to be absent, one cannot quite compare to the one made by a student from South Cotabato. Shared on Facebook by Nurmelyn Alag was a photo of an excuse letter submitted by her classmate, Regie Lomboy.

“Dear Ma’am or Sir, Please excuse me for being absent today because my father is sick and no one is going to guide him. School is always permanent but my father’s life is just once.”

The excuse letter may have grammar errors but the genuine concern and love of a son for his father was what made the letter special. Many netizens felt that the letter was a reminder for children to never take their parents for granted, especially when they need us the most.

The viral post had earned over 47,000 shares and 39,000 likes since posting. Aside from praises and positive comments, the post has also reminded many people to appreciate their parents more.

A netizen shared, “May ganyan din akong excuse letter. I love my mama. She’s my everything.”

Another one got a bit emotional and said, “Sana lahat may tatay pa.”

Netizen D. Valdez also shared her similar experience, “Relate ako dito noong nagkasakit ang nanay namin.

Tama, family comes first.
