- The 20-year-old Cyrille Payumo was crowned as the Miss Tourism International 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last November 8
- She bested 38 other contestants in the international pageant
- She also won the Best in National Costume special award
Filipina beauty queen Cyrille Payumo is the new Miss Tourism International.
The 20-year-old Philippines’ bet was crowned as the Miss Tourism International 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last November 8. She became the fifth Filipina to win the title, a report said.
Payumo, who hails from Porac, Pampanga, bested 38 other contestants from different nations and went on to win the Best in National Costume. Her costume was created by designer Rich Sabinian.
It was reported that Payumo’s win was “a sentimental moment” for her despite not being the original candidate to represent the country in the international pageant. She replaced Tyra Goldman, who was crowned as the Mutya Pilipinas Tourism International last August, due to citizenship issue.
It was learned that Goldman was not born in the Philippines; making her ineligible to represent the country in the international beauty competition. The Mutya ng Pilipinas then decided to field first-runner up Payumo in the pageant.
According to Mutya ng Pilipinas President Cory Aquino, the organizers “don’t have anything against candidates with dual citizenships but they want someone who was born in the Philippines.”
With the victory, Payumo joins other Filipina beauty queens who were crowned Miss Tourism International namely: Jannie Loudette Alipo-on (2017), Angeli Dione Gomez (2013), the late Rizzini Alexis Gomez (2012), and Maria Esperanza Manzano (2000).
Indonesia’s Gabriella Patricia Mandolang was crowned as the Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International while Ukraine’s Kateryna Kachashvili won as the Miss Tourism Global.
Moreover, Poland’s Joanna Babynko was hailed as the Miss Tourism Cosmopolitan International while Cambodia’s Chan Sotima was the Dreamgirl of the Year International.
