- Cebu Pacific just hired the first two transwomen flight attendants of the Philippines
- Mikee Vitug and Jess Labares took to social media to share how happy they were for their achievement
- They will both be taking their first flight with other Cebu Pacific cabin crew this coming weekend
Cebu Pacific recently hired not just one, but two first-ever Filipino trans women flight attendants.
Despite their initial hesitations, Mikee Vitug and Jess Labares were able to show the skills needed for the job. They both took to social media to share their genuine happiness and to take pride over their one-of-a-kind achievement.
In a Facebook post last November 19, Mikee said becoming a flight attendant was just a random idea and thought that it was impossible since Philippines is known as a conservative country.
She also revealed that it was her partner who encouraged her to apply and “stop resisting because there’s no h
arm in trying.”
“I feel honored and humbled that I am one of the first trans woman Cabin crew dito sa Philippines,” wrote Mikee in a long post.
“This is something new and I hope it will spark a change sa kung paano ang pagtingin ng mga tao sa mga trans woman, na hindi kami i-box or i-stereotype kasi tao din naman kami, capable din kami, normal lang din kami na tao,” she added.
It was the same feeling for Jess Labares, another trans woman flight attendant, who was recently hired by Cebu Pacific.
“Sometimes we really have to take that brave step beyond our comfort zone to become a little more aware of who we are and to be well-acquainted with the limits of what we can do,” Jess said in her post.
Jess also wish to become an inspiration to everyone who’s trying to push for their dreams.
“I hope my role will inspire, not just the LGBTQ community, but everyone else with big dreams and are determined to never give up on something they want to achieve in li
fe,” she said.
“Dedication, positivity, and perseverance will definitely guide you toward personal success and happiness. Now I can finally say, this is by far the greatest crown I have ever achieved,” Jess added.
According to a report from GMA News, Mikee Vitug and Jess Labares will both be taking their first flight as Cebu Pacific cabin crew this coming weekend.
Good luck and congratulations!
