A talented Filipino engineer who has been all over Saudi Arabia and Denmark has left everything just to come home and help the government in the “Build, Build, Build” program.

It was the Department of Transportation that shared Deo Miranda’s inspiring story on social media. Working as a railway engineer in Europe, Deo “had it good” in life as he was able to provide for his family and has a comfortable life.

Deo was a graduate of the Technological Institute of the Philippines, and began his life as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in 2006 when he worked as an engineer in Saudi Arabia. When he moved to Denmark in 2015, he worked as an M&E Construction Coordinator and M&E Lead Commissioning Engineer for the Copenhagen Metro Team I/S, assigned under the Copenhagen Cityringen Metro Project.

He has accomplished much in his career but there was a yearning in his life; a longing to be of service to his country. That calling was answered when Deo chanced upon a post on social media.

When Deo saw the viral post of a cutter head prototype for the Metro Manila Subway Project, he decided to rally with his other OFW friends to set a meeting with the DOTr. They wanted to offer their expertise and services to help in building the country’s mass transport systems.

Finally on November 4, Deo embarked on his first day as Engineer IV for the LRT-2 East and LRT-2 West Project Teams.

Transport secretary Arthur Tugade lauded Deo’s decision to give back to the Philippines. He said, “Nakakaantig ng puso kung ang isang OFW, kahit sobrang laki ng kinikita sa ibang bansa, magdedesisyong bumalik at tumulong sa bayan at magsabing: Pilipinas naman.”

Well, Sec Tugade isn’t alone in that sentiment. Many are also appreciating Engr. Deo and feeling so proud of him.
