Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has addressed those responsible for the missteps in the 30th SEA Games.
In his privilege speech on Monday, Go expressed his frus
tra tion at the apparent inefficiencies and unfinished venues for the sporting event. He said, “Ang sabi nila dati, almost ready and complete na ang preparation, venues, and everything that will be used for the games. As of October 30, 2019, PHISGOC (Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee) stated that preparations are 90% complete. Bakit nangyari ang mga ganito?”
Go went on to warn that one person’s failure is a failure of us all. He also reminded who they will be most answerable to if the event becomes a total failure.
He said, “To all the parties, tandaan ninyo, ang kapalpakan ng isa ay kapalpakan nating lahat. Let me remind everyone that you will be answerable to the President and most especially to the Filipino people.”
The senator also said that an apology isn’t enough. What’s needed is a wake up call for everyone to start moving fast.
Go is the head of the Senate committee on sports; responsible for sponsoring the Philippine Sports Commission’s budget. Meanwhile, House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano leads the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) responsible for the planning, organizing and execution of the 30th ASEAN Games.
“As the chair of the committee on sports and a member of the Blue Ribbon Committee, handa po tayo na mag-imbestiga sa mga kapalpakan na mangyayari sa hosting natin sa Southeast Asian Games,” Go said.
This came after several foreign teams complained about issues with their transportation, food, practice and hotel inconveniences. Cayetano personally apologized to the foreign delegates.
