Saguisag calls Yorme Isko Moreno “trapo-ish” and “kwentong barbero”

  • Rene Saguisag said Manila Mayor Isko Moreno’s claim that he turned down a P5-million bribe not to clean up Divisoria is “kwentong barbero” or unbelievable
  • He said such stories are so “trapo-ish” and used by politicians to brag about themselves
  • The lawyer said Moreno should have captured the briber or at least drop some names to make them liable

Human rights lawyer and former senator Rene Saguisag has called out Manila Mayor Isko Moreno for claiming he declined a P5-million bribe.

Saguisag, in his column in the Manila Times, mentioned a number of politicians as he talked about anonymity. One of the officials named by Saguisag was Moreno, who he says was “bragging” about his accomplishments.

According to Saguisag, he’s not convinced that Moreno received and turned down a P5-million bribe to stop clearing operations in Divisoria. He reminded, “Yorme’s duty is to denounce and prosecute, not brag but condone criminality.”

Saguisag added that such “bragging” story has been used for a long time that it has been overused already.

“Yorme, it will be recalled, said he had been offered that rejected bribe. To me, that was so trapo-ish. Kumita na po ‘yan — such exercise of bragging rights is Jurassic,” he said.

The feisty lawyer suggested that “Yorme” should have just “trapped” the briber or at least drop names. Saguisag continued, “For Yorme, it ain’t braggin’ if he can back it up. As of today, it is only his self-serving anecdote we have. Kwentong barbero? Who is he protecting?”

According to Saguisag, by not capturing the alleged briber, Moreno can be charged with dereliction of duty. He said the alleged bribers should have been made liable.

He explained, “I discern a case of dereliction of duty. Article 208 of the Revised Penal Code punishes any public officer “who, in dereliction of the duties of his office, shall maliciously refrain from instituting prosecution for the punishment of violators of the law, or shall tolerate the commission of the offense.”
