The actress has been one of the most sought after villains or “kontrabidas” on screen that it’s hard to imagine Gladys doing a subdued role. But in GMA’s upcoming teleserye, “Madrasta,” Gladys has been instructed to tone down her “kontrabida” acting to portray Dr. Elizabeth.

Gladys shares with Pep, “Pina-tone down ako rito ni Direk Monti [Parungao]. Medyo doon ako nahirapan, kasi usually, ang role ko, high-strung ako.”

The actress said it took her willpower to follow the instructions but she’s working on it. Gladys said, “Malaking change ito para sa mga nasanay na sa mga ginagampanan ko. Mahirap ang magpigil na magtaray, sa totoo lang. Hindi ako sanay.”

It sure won’t be easy for an actress who has been raising her eyebrows as a “kontrabida” for close to 35 years.

Gladys shared, “Maldita akong anak ni Vilma Santos sa ‘Muling Buksan Ang Puso,’ at mataray akong young Lorna Tolentino sa ‘Nakagapos Na Puso.’ Tapos sa ‘Mara Clara,’ five years kong inapi-api si Judy Ann Santos.”

It’s no wonder that Gladys’ dream project would be to star alongside the industry’s best TV villains. She named a few of the biggest names in the industry she would like to work with.
