Pinoy Junior tennis players dominate Asian tourney; bring home 4 championships

Young Filipino tennis players emerged victorious for claiming four championship titles in the recently concluded 14th Asian Tennis Federation 14 and Under Series 2019 held in Sarawak, Malayasia.

The Unified Tennis Philippines team composed of Alexa Joy Milliam, Maxie Jarata, Joewyn Pascua, Kid Jucutan, and Andrei Jarata brought home four championships and two runners up finish.

According to a report, Milliam dominated the Girls’ Singles Division with a 6-0, 6-3 win over her Taiwanese nemesis while Pascua outlasted teammate Jucatan to win the Boys’ Singles title with a 3-5, 4-0, 3-3 score.

Milliam and her partner Maxie Jarata bagged the Girls’ Doubles Championship after defeating their Singaporean opponents in a 4-p6, 6-3, 10-4 match.

The team of Andrei Jarata and Malaysia’s Thoybah Rahim, on the other hand, claimed the Boys’ Doubles title over the Philippines’ duo Jucutan and Pascua in a 5-3, 4-2 duel.

It was reported that the Philippine team was mentored by Coach Leander Lazaro.

The Filipino junior tennis players, the report added, have also won various championships in international competitions donning the country’s color. Some of the victories claimed by Filipino young tennis players were the country’s first Asia Oceania Championship title earlier this year, Leylah Annie Fernandez‘ French Open Junior Singles title, and Alex Eala‘s multiple championships.

It was disclosed that another group of Unified Tennis Philippines, which will be led by Sydney Enriquez and Eric Jay Tangub, will compete in the ITF Grade 5 tourney in Selangor in October. Goodluck, everyone!
