The Philippine National Police (PNP) Responders are out to show the global stage that Filipino policemen are as “athletic as other countries’ force” like the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department), NYPD (New York Police Department), police force from China and Vietnam, among others, a report said.

“Our sporting teams are the pride and joy of our 17,000 personnel,” Lt. Gen. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan said; noting that they have been sending teams to the annual meet for the last six years.

The report said that twelve PNP teams across nine sports are currently competing in the global sports event, headlined by the 45-and-over basketball squad, who’ve been together for the past six years and previously represented the country during the 2015 Washington and 2017 Los Angeles editions of the Games.

For the team’s playing-coach Police Staff Sergeant Abdul Khair Bayabao, this is a good experience for the team; adding, “Dito namin natupad yung pangarap namin na ma-represent yung Pilipinas. Parang ito na yung Gilas moment namin.”

While the Philippine basketball squad wants to keep winning games, they would also take whatever result they get in the competition because  what’s more important is to make the country proud.

“Kahit hindi muna gold. Siguro, kahit yung silver lang. Pero ang pinakaimportante ay yung makalaro kami nang maayos at hindi kami mapilayan,” Bayabao said in a report.

Aside from their organization, which is the PNP, the team has also been receiving constant support from local sporting apparel manufacturer Team Rebel Sports Pilipinas. Team Rebel has been providing the squad their uniforms.

“Malaking bagay ito kasi at least hindi na nila proproblemahin yung pagkakaroon ng uniforms they could be proud of. At least yung budget nila mapunta sa gagastusin nila dun,” Team Rebel owner Joel Cu said.
