MANILA, Philippines – The country’s longest-running noontime show, Eat Bulaga!, will soon have a Myanmar version.
The program’s host Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon announced the good news on Tuesday, during EB’s 40th anniversary celebration.
“Dabarkads, noong nagsimula ang Eat Bulaga!, hindi namin inisip na sa history ng aming programa ay mararating nito ang ibang bansa,” [Friends, when Eat Bulaga! began, we never thought that in the history of our program we would make it to other countries], Sotto said.
He said that aside from being the first Philippine variety show to have an international franchise last 2012, the happiness brought by the show will soon be experienced by the Burmese.
De Leon said that the 1,001 laughters from EB is now for Asia; adding that segments like Juan for All will be shown in the Myanmar version.
Platform Media Management & Broadcasting Company founder Capt. Aung Po disclosed the story behind the franchise.
He said Myanmar televisions are mostly showing agriculture and news but there’s no reality show like Eat Bulaga!.
Po said he works as a pilot and has a Filipino man who, after returning from the Philippines, introduced him to a private company with the aviation of the Philippines. He started to invest in the country’s aviation and learn the community.
One evening, he continued, he met the Ambassador of the Philippines to Myanmar and had a discussion until the ambassador mentioned Eat Bulaga!. Since he has a production company, he requested to have a meeting with the EB executives.
While observing the show, Po said, he started to think that the show is not just about entertainment but about sharing kindness and filling the needs of the community.
He said he has doubts if he can make it but the program’s heads promised to help him, and so he pushed through!
Goodluck, Eat Bulaga! Myanmar!
