A 96-year-old man was c
aught for oversp eeding while taking his 63-year-old son to the doctor — good thing, the judg e who handled the c ase was a compassionate and reasonable man.
During the hearing, Judge Frank Carpio asked Victor Coella why he exceeded the speed limit.
“You are charged with a school zone violation… you were exceeding the speed limit in a school zone,” he said; giving the speeder a chance to d
efend himself. The elderly man then talked about the medical condition of his son; the reason why he drives for the latter every once in a while, despite his old age.
“I don’t drive that fast, Judge. I’m 96 years old and I drive slowly, and I only drive when I have to,” he said; adding that his son was handicapped and he was attending to his son’s urgent medical needs.
Carpio dismissed the case and expressed kind words to Coella; touching a lot of people online.
“You are a good man. You really are what America is all about. Here you are in your 90s and you’re still taking care of your family. That’s just a wonderful thing for you,” the judge said. “I wish you all the best. I wish the best for your son and I wish you good health, and your case is dismissed. God bless you.”
